What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive technique that improves the overall tone and texture of the skin. Sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related problems and disorders can all be improved with it.

To renew the skin, a specific applicator with an abrasive surface is used to gradually sand away the heavy outer layer.

A alternative microdermabrasion technique uses a vacuum/suction to spray tiny particles of aluminium oxide or sodium bicarbonate to achieve the same result as the abrasive surface.

Microdermabrasion is considered a safe procedure for most skin types and colors. People might choose to get the procedure if they have the following skin concerns:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • hyperpigmentation, age spots and brown spots
  • enlarged pores and blackheads
  • acne and acne scars
  • stretch marks
  • dull-looking skin complexion
  • uneven skin tone and texture
  • melasma
  • sun damage

How does microdermabrasion work?

Microdermabrasion is a one-hour treatment that takes place in the office.

It's usually done by a licensed skincare expert, who may or may not be supervised by a medical practitioner.

This is dependent on where you reside. Microdermabrasion does not need the use of anesthetic or a numbing medication.

You'll be seated on a reclining recliner for the duration of your visit. In the targeted regions, your provider will use a portable instrument to gently spray on the particles or sand away the outer layer of skin. A moisturizer and sunscreen will be administered to your skin at the conclusion of the treatment.

Side effects of microdermabrasion

After microdermabrasion, there is minimal to no downtime. You should be able to resume your normal routine right away.

Use mild skin care products and keep your skin moisturized. After treatment, don't use any topical acne medicines for at least one day. It is critical to use sunscreen to protect your skin. In the weeks following the treatment, your skin may be more sensitive to the sun.

After the treatment, you may expect to see visible effects right away. The number of microdermabrasion treatments required will be determined by the severity of your skin problems and your goals.
