So, what is the big deal with Nutrition and Cancer?
- A poor nutritional status has been associated with an increased risk of morbidity (sickness)
- Unintentional weight loss, malnutrition, cachexia (weight loss and weakness of the body due to illness), tiredness and fatigue have been linked to increased risk of mortality (death)
- If you are malnourished it could decrease your likelihood of completing your full prescribed cancer treatments such as radiation or chemotherapy
- Malnutrition also reduces your quality of life and may increase the risk of unplanned or extended hospitalization
